The text re-construction activities in textivate split up the text into various-sized chunks automatically.
This means that you get lots of different exercises at differing levels of difficulty, without having to split the text up manually. (See this example:)
Some see this as a disadvantage, as they'd like to be able to create an exercise where they decide where the breaks in the text occur.
One way of doing this is to enter line breaks in your text (ie. press the return key on your keyboard) and then get your students to do the "paragraph" activity (the icon with <p> on it). The paragraph activity splits the text up according to line breaks, so the chunks of text will be the ones defined by you. (See below:)
People felt the same way about the gap-fill exercise too.
Initially, it was only available as an automatically generated exercise, which has the benefit of being completely different each time you restart the exercise. (See below:)
However, some people wanted to be able to specify the gaps in their exercise, so we added an extra exercise, and teachers can now create this additional gap-fill by clicking on an icon on the textivate home page. (See below:)
