NB. This resource assumes that students have a student log-in (i.e. requires Premium or Group subscription).
A) To create a resource for the first time:
- Go to Textivate and log in.
- On the Textivate home page, click on the NEW icon. (The blank page).
- Click the "Show all" tab, then type / paste your (hopefully accurate!!) text into the empty text box.
-
(Optional) Add text-to-speech: click on the "Extras" tab and select the target language in the dropdown box next to "Main text".
-
(Optional) Add a parallel text translation: click on the "Extras" tab and type or paste in an accurate English translation of your text in the parallel text box.
- Click on textivate >> to access a menu of text reconstruction activities.
- Select from the available activities. Have a play with them. Click around and see what different things do.
Every activity has a ? icon at the top right, which explains what you have to do.
(If you added text-to-speech, you will see options for this on all activity screens.)
(If you added a parallel text, you can access this via the little parallel text icon at the top right of each screen.)
Use Textivate's "Back" button to navigate back to the Activity Menu and to the Home Page.
B) To save from Textivate:
- On the home page, click on the "Show all" tab.
- Copy all of the text inside the text box (including any weird looking stuff).
- Paste it to somewhere from which you can access it later. eg. an email, a google doc, a word doc, a one note, etc.
C) To access a resource on a different device / at a later date:
This is essentially the same as section A above, except that any extra stuff that you did, like adding text-to-speech or parallel text (or even matching items), will already be included in the text that you previously copied, so you don't have to do that part again.
- Go to Textivate and log in.
- On the Textivate home page, click on the NEW icon. (The blank page).
- Click the "Show all" tab, then paste in the text that you had previously stored elsewhere.
- Click on textivate >> to access the menu of text reconstruction activities.
Hope this helps :o)
